Integrating AI Technology into Teaching at the NTUN Shih Hua-je Camp

2024-06-13
The 113th year of our school's Ministry of Education's Shih Hua-je Educational Service Project is set to launch this summer! This year's Shih Hua-je camps will provide educational services in remote areas such as Chijudao Penghu, STEAM creative activities in Taoyuan, and the technologically rich cultural environment of Tainan. Exciting and innovative course activities will be offered to local students, initiating a journey of exploration into advanced technology.

The theme for this year's Shih Hua-je camps is "Practical Teaching Skills, Forward-looking Technological Competence". Using tools like KIBO robots and JIMU robots, our student teachers will create new learning experiences for children. They will conduct AI technology exploration courses and computational thinking lessons to guide children in uncovering the mysteries of technology. Additionally, AI technology and differentiated instruction methods will be integrated into various core subjects, encouraging lively and engaging learning. Beyond academic fields, elements such as board games and outdoor education will be incorporated to showcase unique courses, stimulating children's interest in learning through diverse teaching methods and creative activities, promoting comprehensive development.

Our school's Shih Hua-je camps will be held from late June to late July, sequentially visiting five schools. This year, our cooperating schools include Neian Elementary School and Xingren Elementary School in Penghu County, Pingzhen Kindergarten in Taoyuan City, Longgang Elementary School and Chang'an Elementary School in Tainan City. A total of 31 dedicated student teachers, filled with educational passion, will actively participate. Before entering the schools for service, the Teacher Training Center has organized AI workshops and pre-camp training to enhance the AI technology teaching capabilities of our camp instructors. With ample teaching preparation, we believe they will deliver enriching courses to the children.

Director Wu Chun-ping of the Teacher Training Center expressed appreciation and gratification for students willing to devote their holidays to camp service. This opportunity is not only for learning and growth but also a test of their own abilities. In the field of education, unexpected situations often arise, so the ability to apply what they have learned and adapt their teaching strategies is crucial.

Principal Chen Hui-ping emphasized that our school has been involved in the Shih Hua-je Educational Service Project for many years. For student teachers, this is a rare opportunity and a highly challenging mission. The camp will provide a variety of themed courses and teaching activities, nurturing social empathy and humanistic spirit among student teachers while adding color to the summer break for children in remote areas. We wish the camp activities a successful and fulfilling completion.
