Industry–Government–University Collaboration

In recent years, NUTN has actively expanded collaboration with industry and government to promote technology transfer, talent development, and innovation. These partnerships accelerate the practical application of research outcomes, provide diverse experiential opportunities for faculty and students, strengthen professional and innovative capacity, and advance social responsibility and sustainability goals.

The Innovation Incubation Center has established incentives for industry–university collaboration, technology-transfer revenue sharing, and equity participation in start-ups to encourage faculty engagement. It also expands commercialization and international visibility by building an international biomedical industry–university alliance, participating in global exhibitions, and collaborating with internationally recognized institutions.

Achievements of Three Major Research Centers

Watershed Ecology and Environmental Conservation Research Center

The Center studies watershed aquatic ecology and ecosystem restoration, supporting resilient watershed management. Industry–government–university collaboration projects increased from 23 in 2023 to 59 in 2025, and it supported the Laomapi Stream Improvement Project, which received an Honorable Mention in the Water Resources Category at the 24th Public Construction Golden Quality Awards.

Solar Cell Center (PV Circulator)

Led by Professor Yao-Hsien Fu, the Center develops zero-pollution, low-carbon recycling systems for waste solar panels and advances high-value material reuse and circular-economy applications. By 2025, it had secured 19 domestic and international patents and generated more than NT$150 million in technology-transfer revenue, while receiving international recognition including a CES Innovation Award.

Lithium-ion Battery Research and Development Center

Established in 2011, the Center develops lithium-ion battery materials with high performance and safety. Since founding the Lithium-ion Battery Industry–University Alliance in 2015, it has organized nine major international conferences, each attended by more than 200 participants on average, contributing to the development of Taiwan's lithium-battery industry.

Connecting International Partners through an Open-source Platform for Quantum Computing Intelligence Education

A team led by Professor Chien-Hsing Lee of the Knowledge Application and Network Service Research Center partnered with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Tokyo Metropolitan University, and other institutions to build an open-source Quantum Computing Intelligence learning platform and develop experiential modules for university and school students.

Partnering with a Vocational School to Advance Digital Transformation and Smart Teaching

A team led by Associate Professor Po-Han Wu of the Department of Learning and Materials Design supported Kaohsiung Municipal Sanmin Vocational High School Of Home Economics & Commerce in transforming digital instruction. The initiative optimized network infrastructure, configured learning devices, and integrated instructional systems to develop innovative strategies tailored to vocational education.

From Collections to Classrooms: NUTN and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature Create a New Model for Classical Chinese Poetry Heritage

NUTN partnered with the National Museum of Taiwan Literature on a Taiwan Classical Chinese Poetry Illustrated Reader outreach project and curated a miniature calligraphy exhibition featuring works by 24 calligraphers, alumni, faculty members, and pre-service teachers, touring Tainan, New Taipei, and Yilan.

Preserving a Century of Taiwan's Meteorological History with the Central Weather Administration

The Department of Culture and Natural Resources partnered with the Central Weather Administration to publish a volume documenting more than a century of meteorological development, transforming academic expertise into public knowledge.

Advancing the Sustainable Transmission of the Song Jiang Lion Dance Troupe

Commissioned by the Kaohsiung Museum of History, the Tainan Studies Research Center carried out a preservation and maintenance project for the Zhongputou Song Jiang Lion Dance Troupe in Neimen, Kaohsiung. Through field research and stakeholder forums, the team documented the troupe's history and current transmission practices and proposed short-, medium-, and long-term preservation strategies.
