Greenhouse Gas Inventory
In 2025, the Ministry of Environment established new carbon-reduction requirements. Beginning in 2026, individual university sites emitting at least 5,000 tCO₂e annually must conduct and register greenhouse gas inventories. Although NUTN falls below the regulatory threshold, it has voluntarily conducted inventories since 2022, formally adopted ISO 14064-1 in 2024, and completed internal verification training and an emissions inventory in 2025.
Total Carbon Emissions in 2025
3,480.81tCO₂e
Reduction from 2024
275.81tCO₂e(7.34% reduction)
2040 Target Emissions
1,761tCO₂e(53% below the baseline)
Three-year Trends in Major Emission Categories
Category 1 emissions (direct emissions and removals) and Category 2 emissions (indirect emissions from imported energy, primarily purchased electricity) have both declined over the past three years. These remain the University's two largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions.
Category 1 · Direct Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Removals (tCO₂e)
Category 2 · Indirect Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Imported Energy (tCO₂e)
Three-year Trends in Major Emission Categories (metric tons CO₂e)
| Year | Category 1: Direct Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Removals | Category 2: Indirect Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Imported Energy |
| 2023 | 538.75 | 2,689.83 |
| 2024 | 499.52 | 2,607.67 |
| 2025 | 283.67 | 2,462.56 |
Target Carbon Emissions, 2025–2040
NUTN uses 2024 as the baseline year (3,757 tCO₂e). Emissions are targeted to decline by 4% annually from 2025 to 2030 and by 5% annually from 2031 to 2040, reaching 1,761 metric tons in 2040—approximately 53% below the baseline.
The chart displays even-numbered years only. See the Sustainability Report for complete annual data.
