Energy Conservation and Electricity Management
NUTN progressively replaces aging air-conditioning equipment and applies unit-based responsibility zones to advance energy conservation and carbon reduction. The Energy Conservation Committee meets twice a year to review implementation of the electricity-efficiency improvement plan. Smart power management now links meters on both the high- and low-voltage sides of all 12 campus substations, enabling real-time monitoring and load management. The system is being expanded to support peak shaving, load shifting, and more efficient use of equipment.

Smart Air-conditioning and Energy-saving Systems
Course-schedule-based Energy-saving System
In 2017, Wenhui Building completed a smart power-control system that operates classroom air conditioning according to course schedules and temperature settings, preventing unnecessary energy use during idle periods.
Dedicated Air-conditioning Circuits
Dedicated air-conditioning circuits were completed in Buildings A–F at the Rongyu Campus in 2019 and 2021. The energy management system controls power supply and load shedding to improve equipment utilization.
Smart Air-conditioning Control System
Building A at the Rongyu Campus supports remote control by smartphone or tablet. In 2025, smart energy-saving management was introduced for 76 air-conditioning units in the Red Building and Chengzheng Building at the Fucheng Campus.
Installation Rate of Energy-efficient Equipment
Solar Photovoltaics and Renewable Energy
NUTN works with private partners to install solar photovoltaic systems on unused campus rooftops. Facilities have been completed on Chengzheng Building, Wenhui Building, Qiming Court, and Zhongshan Hall at the Fucheng Campus, as well as Zhongxiao Hall at the Rongyu Campus. Additional systems, including one on Siyuan Building, are under construction and expected to connect to the grid in 2026. Rooftop solar installations activate unused space, generate stable revenue, and provide thermal insulation and cooling benefits.

Water Efficiency and Conservation Measures
Using 2010 as the baseline year, NUTN promotes water conservation through Water Efficiency Label fixtures and stronger pipeline maintenance. Chengzheng Building, Siyuan Building, and the Student Activity Center are equipped with rainwater harvesting systems. Reverse-osmosis wastewater from Wenhui Building is reused for irrigation and restroom cleaning, and the Teaching and Research Building under construction will adopt a similar system to reduce water and wastewater-treatment costs.

Sewer Connection Progress
In response to the Tainan City Government's expansion of public sewer coverage, NUTN began allocating approximately NT$25 million for sewer-connection work in 2019. Wastewater from major buildings at the Fucheng Campus was connected to the municipal sewer system in 2022, and sewer service charges are now paid. Huanyu Hall is fully connected. Further connections will be coordinated with campus-use plans and new-building schedules to ensure regulatory compliance.
