International Engagement Overview

International Student Composition

In AY 2024-25, NUTN enrolled 128 international and overseas students: 62 overseas Chinese students (48.4%), 39 international students (30.5%), and 27 students from Hong Kong and Macao (21.1%). The share of international degree students remained close to 2.2% from AY 2022-23 to AY 2024-25 and was 2.21% in AY 2024-25.

International Agreements and Faculty–Student Participation

By 2025, NUTN had signed international academic agreements with 85 institutions across 21 countries on three continents: 58 in Asia, 15 in the Americas, and 12 in Europe. In 2025, the Department of Public Administration and Management led a student delegation to Komatsu University in Ishikawa, Japan, where the two institutions formally signed an exchange agreement and opened further opportunities for international cooperation.

Hosting an International Animal Welfare Forum to Turn Policy Knowledge into Social Action

In August 2025, Taiwan hosted the 14th Asia for Animals Conference for the first time, bringing together more than 600 experts from over 30 countries. NUTN's Department of Public Administration Management was one of three co-organizers. Professor Tsung-Hsien Wu's long-term work at the intersection of public policy and animal welfare helped expand regional dialogue on animal protection.

Korean Delegation Visits Yintong Community to Explore Intergenerational Co-creation

Yintong Community in Tainan's Yonghua Village is a long-term field site for NUTN's USR project on intergenerational co-creation. In June 2025, a delegation from Jeonbuk State, Korea, visited the community to observe an age-friendly model jointly developed by students, older adults, and community workers, highlighting the principle that older adults are holders of knowledge and culture.

SDG 4 Quality Education SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Learning at Kyushu University's Plasma Laboratory

Graduate students and faculty from the Department of Materials Science completed a 12-day field-based learning program at Kyushu University in Japan, exploring interdisciplinary applications of plasma technology in materials processing, biomedicine, and aerospace. The program also strengthened institutional ties and laid the groundwork for future academic exchange.

Pre-service Teachers Experience Multilingual Education in Tokyo

The Department of Chinese Language and Literature and the Center for Teacher Education implemented the Ministry of Education's Overseas Education Practicum Program at Tokyo Chinese School. Six pre-service teachers completed a two-week teaching practicum, applying their training in real classrooms in NUTN's first collaboration with the school.

SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities

Taiwan–Thailand Faculty Exhibition Opens Dialogue through Art

Faculty from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at Thaksin University, Thailand, visited NUTN and co-organized the Tainan Autumn Fragrance Taiwan–Thailand Art Exchange Exhibition at Shiangyu Museum. The exhibition gave NUTN students direct exposure to Thai approaches to art education and broadened their understanding of artistic diversity in Asia.
