Committed to fostering a safe and healthy campus environment, the Health Services Division of the Office of Student Affairs at National University of Tainan (NUTN) continues to promote first aid education and emergency preparedness training. On May 23, 2026, the University organized a Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and Certification Program, inviting certified instructor Tsai-Hsin Cheng from the Tainan Branch of the Red Cross Society to provide professional instruction. Through systematic training and hands-on practice, the program helped participants develop essential first aid knowledge and the confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations.
The training program covered a range of critical life-saving skills, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) operation, wound dressing and bandaging, patient transportation techniques, and tourniquet application. Combining theoretical instruction, scenario-based simulations, and group practice sessions, the course enabled participants to gain practical experience and become familiar with emergency response procedures and techniques.
To enhance learning outcomes, the program incorporated realistic emergency simulations that required participants to assess situations and make timely decisions under conditions that closely resembled real-life emergencies. These exercises helped strengthen participants' composure, judgment, and response capabilities when facing unexpected incidents.
Throughout the training, participants demonstrated a high level of engagement and enthusiasm. Under the guidance of professional instructors, they repeatedly practiced each step of the emergency response process, from assessing a patient's condition and performing chest compressions to operating an AED. Many faculty members and students noted that the hands-on experience significantly improved their understanding of life-saving procedures and gave them greater confidence in their ability to assist others during emergencies.
According to the Health Services Division, campus safety depends not only on facilities and institutional systems but also on the preparedness and capabilities of every member of the university community. In recent years, the University has continuously organized health promotion activities, first aid education programs, and campus safety initiatives to integrate emergency response awareness into everyday life and strengthen self-care and mutual support among students and staff.
The division emphasized that the actions taken during the first few minutes of an emergency are often critical to saving lives. By continuing to promote first aid education and cultivate life-saving skills across campus, NUTN aims to create a caring and resilient community where everyone understands first aid and every member contributes to a safer campus environment.
