National University of Tainan (NUTN) took part in the "2026 5th Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo" from August 27 to 29, setting up a booth in the Sustainability Education Zone at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1. Themed "Building Our Future Together: Resilience, Innovation, Co-Prosperity," this year's expo brought together sustainability initiatives from government, industry, education and civil society. At Booth No. 513, NUTN presented its diverse achievements in sustainable development under two main themes: "Social Practice and Local Sustainability" and "Technology Research and Environmental Ecology."
The "Technology Research and Environmental Ecology" theme integrated research and practical outcomes from NUTN's Office of Research and Development, Office of Social Engagement, College of Environment and Ecology, and Low-Carbon Energy Research Center. The College of Environment and Ecology further consolidated specialized research from its Solar Cell Research Center and Watershed Ecological Environment Conservation Research Center. Through themed display walls, physical exhibits, project materials and multimedia content, the exhibition highlighted NUTN's progress in renewable energy and the circular economy, environmental ecology and watershed conservation, and technology research and talent cultivation—demonstrating the university's strength in cross-disciplinary integration.
Under the "Social Practice and Local Sustainability" theme, NUTN presented three University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives: "Teaching for Remote Areas – Building the Qigu Remote Education Support Station 4.0," "Gathering Happiness, Uniting Wishes," and "Rock the Generations: Cultural Translation and Regeneration in the Chiayi-Tainan Region." These projects showcased how faculty and students have engaged directly with local communities to address real needs, combining educational practice, a maker spirit, arts and culture, and intergenerational collaboration. By addressing the everyday needs of diverse groups and promoting local sustainable development, the initiatives illustrate how university expertise can connect meaningfully with community needs.
Dr. Da-Wei Lin, Dean of Research and Development at NUTN, noted that this year's exhibition brought together the university's research, teaching and social engagement efforts, concretely demonstrating its achievements in technology research, environmental ecology and local sustainability. He added that the university will continue to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, strengthen exchanges and connections among industry, government, academia and community partners, and translate academic research into innovative action that responds to social needs—further expanding the university's impact on sustainable development.
During the expo, NUTN Vice President Chih-Cheng Hou took part in the signing ceremony for the "Public Sector Sustainability Development Initiative," joining partners from the education and public sectors in support of sustainable governance and cross-sector collaboration. This reflected NUTN's ongoing commitment to fulfilling its university social responsibility, deepening sustainability education, and advancing campus sustainability. Vice President Hou stated that sustainable development is not only a vital issue for research and teaching, but also requires cross-disciplinary collaboration to translate university knowledge and expertise into concrete actions that respond to local and social needs. He affirmed that NUTN will continue to integrate its research, teaching and social engagement capacities, deepen partnerships with industry, government and communities, and put sustainability principles into practice across campus, communities and industry—working together to build a future defined by resilience, innovation and shared prosperity.
The "2026 5th Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo" runs from August 27 to 29, daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1.
